The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has handed all-rounder Hamza Nazar a two-year ban from all forms of cricket and a fine of PKR 1 million after concluding he submitted misleading and incomplete information during a visa application process handled by the board.

The PCB announced the decision on 6 August 2026, following an inquiry conducted by a three-member disciplinary committee set up specifically to examine the cricketer's conduct. Hamza was given the opportunity to present his case before the committee reviewed the available evidence and finalised its report.

What the PCB Inquiry Found

The committee identified three distinct failings in Hamza's visa application, determining that he had not disclosed important facts and had submitted details the board considered misleading.

"The PCB takes matters involving misrepresentation, non-disclosure and the submission of misleading information extremely seriously," the board said in a statement. "Such conduct was inconsistent with the standards of honesty, professionalism and responsibility expected from individuals associated with Pakistan cricket."

The PCB added that it would not permit any individual to damage the standing of the board, the sport, or its supporters. "The PCB will not allow any individual to tarnish the reputation of the board, Pakistan cricket or the millions of supporters who follow the game," it said.

What the Ban Means for Hamza Nazar's Career

Hamza had been among the more notable performers in Pakistan's domestic circuit and was reportedly under consideration for the national Test squad ahead of Pakistan's two-match series in the West Indies. The visa issue removed him from selection contention before the ban was formally confirmed.

With the two-year suspension now in force, the all-rounder will be ineligible for both domestic and international cricket until at least 2028, effectively placing his career on hold at a point when an international breakthrough had appeared within reach.

The PCB's decision underscores the board's stance on conduct it regards as incompatible with the values it expects from those representing Pakistani cricket at any level.

Exempt from US visa bond payments

In other news, the US Department of State made permanent its Visa Bond Programme, requiring citizens of 30 African countries to post bonds of between $5,000 and $15,000 before obtaining B-1 or B-2 visitor visas.

Kenya was among 24 African countries exempted from the bond requirement, meaning its citizens can continue applying for US visitor visas without posting a financial bond.

The programme took effect on August 3, 2026, with the State Department selecting affected countries based on visa overstay data compiled by the Department of Homeland Security.

The department said the list will remain under review, while travellers from exempt countries are expected to comply with US visa conditions to avoid possible inclusion in future revisions.
