Celtic set to land Chelsea prospect Landon Emenalo on season-long Loan

Celtic are closing in on a season-long loan move for Chelsea teenager Landon Emenalo as Martin O’Neill continues to reshape his squad.

According to Stephen McGowan in The Herald, the 18-year-old has been identified as an option to provide cover for Kieran Tierney at left-back and could become the latest new arrival at Celtic Park.

Emenalo, the son of former Chelsea technical director Michael Emenalo, has progressed through the Stamford Bridge academy and has represented both England and the United States at youth level.

Although previously regarded as a midfielder or central defender, he impressed at left-back during three of Chelsea’s pre-season matches under Xabi Alonso.

The move comes amid a busy spell of transfer activity for Celtic, who have completed the £6million signing of Egyptian winger Haissem Hassan on a four-year contract with the option of a further season.

German Under-21 midfielder Mika Baur is also due to undergo a medical after travelling to Glasgow to complete the formalities of his move.

Celtic have already added Camilo Duran and Danish striker Kasper Høgh this summer, with Hassan, Baur and Emenalo potentially all joining the squad ahead of next week’s Champions League play-off first leg against LASK Linz.

O’Neill has stressed his desire to prioritise quality over quantity, with Celtic also remaining in the market for a goalkeeper.

There could yet be significant movement in the opposite direction. West Ham are expected to return with an improved package worth £25million for Arne Engels, while Celtic are reluctant to lose Alistair Johnston amid interest from Everton.

The Hoops are understood to want more than £15million for the Canadian right-back, with Everton now assessing a number of alternatives.
