Close friends Wang and Zhao eye London reunion after both win titles on same day

Wang Chuqin and Zhao Xintong have more in common than being champions in their respective sports; the pair are close friends and are eyeing a potential reunion in London after clinching major titles on the same day.

The International Table Tennis Federation World Cup in Macau and the snooker Tour Championship in Manchester both finished on Sunday, with Wang and Zhao securing the men’s singles titles in each.

Zhao, who beat world No 1 Judd Trump, revealed the pair had been messaging throughout the day to support one another.

“He had just won and I said I had to fight a bit more tonight,” the 29-year-old snooker star said.

Zhao congratulated Wang, 25, on his first world title, and said it had been very difficult for his friend, as the “most watched” player.

“I know this title is very important to him, so tonight I also gave myself extra motivation, and I am very happy to win the title together with him,” Zhao said.
