BCCI ASCU pulls the plug on usage of smart sunglasses

The Board of Control for Cricket in India's Anti Corruption and Security Unit has warned the teams participating in IPL 2026 to not possess or use 'Smart Goggles' in the tournament.

Cricbuzz is in possession of the protocols issued by the BCCI that was shared to the franchises on May 18. It's been stated that certain companies that sell these smart sunglasses or goggles to players and support staff are equipped with advanced communication features that include live streaming, sending and receiving text messages, as well as audio and video calling options via mobile data or Wi-Fi.

Under the Players and Match Officials Area (PMOA) standards, these glasses or goggles are classified as an 'Audio/Video recording device' and a 'Communication Device'. As a result, possession or usage of such devices have been strictly banned in the PMOA area.

On match days, all players and support staff have been instructed to deposit such devices with the 'Security Liaison Officer' alongside their mobile phones and smartwatches while entering the PMOA. A failure to strictly adhere to this guideline shall be deemed as a breach of the protocols, resulting potential penalties.
