22:53 CET - ASTON VILLA ARE EUROPA LEAGUE CHAMPIONS!

In the end, it was as comfortable as you can get in a European final, with goals from Youri Tielemans, Emi Buendia and Morgan Rogers seeing the Villians run out 3-0 winners against Freiburg.

Keep updating Flashscore for reaction from the game as we get it.

22:51 CET - Into just one minute of stoppage time...

22:48 CET - Just a matter of time now for Aston Villa, the fans inside the stadium continue to sing loudly, as their side stroll to the title.

22:41 CET - Ten minutes to go in the Europa League final, and it has turned into a procession for Aston Villa. They continue to find openings without scoring, suffocating Freiburg into submission. The German side have had no response in this second half.

22:35 CET - That would have been the icing on the cake, but Emi Buendia puts his effort wide. A flowing move from Villa sees the Argentinian clean through, but he can only find the side netting from just six yards out.

22:30 CET - With 20 minutes to go, Aston Villa are in cruise control, as substitute Amadou Onana goes close with a header. In truth, since the 40th minute, this has not been much of a contest, with Freiburg yet to register a single shot in the second half.

22:21 CET - Freiburg have to gamble now if they are to get back into the game, and they have made a double change with Paul Leinhart and Nicolas Hofler off for Lucas Holer and Max Rosenfelder.

They have had 69% possession over the opening 15 minutes of the second half, but shots are still hard to come by.

22:18 CET - Aston Villa in dreamland! They look set to win their first European trophy in more than 40 years as Morgan Rogers makes it 3-0 over Freiburg in the 58th minute.

Emi Buendia fizzes a low ball into the box, and the England international slides in to send it home from close range.

Get the champagne ready, Villa fans!

22:14 CET - Rather predictably, given their two-goal lead, Villa are now sitting deep and springing on the counter as Freiburg push bodies forward. Ollie Watkins and Emi Buendia have had efforts in the early going of the second half, but nothing to worry the Bundesliga side.

22:08 CET - Quick thinking from Emi Martinez saves himself from a red card. The Villa goalkeeper rushes out to break up a through ball and slides out of the box after gathering the ball. But he drops it inside the area to keep the game flowing.

22:05 CET - Back underway in Istanbul, what can Freiburg produce now to get back into the contest?

Both sides remain unchanged to start the second half.

21:50 CET - What a goal from Emi Buendia!

It's been wave after wave of Aston Villa pressure since the opener, and they have their second with a stunner from their Argentine playmaker.

Played inside by John McGinn, he cuts onto his left foot to bend one into the top corner and give his side a two-goal cushion at the break.

A real sucker punch for Freiburg as they make their way from the field.

21:42 CET - That's how to liven up a final! Aston Villa lead 1-0 against Freiburg, and it's Youri Tielemans who has the opener.

A silky corner routine allows the Belgian space inside the box, and he makes no mistake with his volley, putting it on goal, and it flies into the net via a deflection or two.

It's his second goal in nine Europa League games - possibly the most important goal of his career.

21:40 CET - As Aston Villa see shots blocked at one end, Johan Manzambi is causing problems for Freiburg at the other. The Swiss midfielder takes on Victor Lindelof before firing a dangerous cross right across the face of goal, but no teammate can connect.

21:34 CET - First speck of danger since the earlier free-kick for Aston Villa, as Freiburg's Johan Manzambi takes fly from range. It's an awkward bounce for Emi Martinez, but he holds on well.

21:31 CET - Thirty minutes into the final, and we have entered a bit of a midfield stalemate, with both defences dealing resolutely with each side's attacks.

Interestingly, Lucas Digne has, so far, had the most touches inside the opposition box with two, suggesting Unai Emery wishes to exploit the right-hand side of Freiburg's backline.

21:21 CET - Nearly midway through the first half, still goalless, but we've already had three yellow cards. The latest in the book is Matty Cash for a high challenge. Despite the magnitude of the game, the referee, Francois Letexier, seems unafraid to flash the cards early. Could that come back to haunt either side later in the contest?

21:17 CET - Set-pieces may be the best opportunity for Freiburg against Aston Villa, and they cause some chaos with their first one. The ball falls to Nicolas Hofler on the edge of the box, but he skews a good chance wide.

21:12 CET - Both sets of fans are creating a fantastic atmosphere inside Besiktas Park, but it's all Villa so far, playing with pace and intensity.

Ollie Watkins has already gone close, as Freiburg seem unable to string more than a few passes together.

21:08 CET - Eight minutes into the contest, and Aston Villa have made a bright start, with Morgan Rogers having a long-range effort saved.

20:30 CET - Just 30 minutes to go until we get underway, and it will be a familiar feeling for Unai Emery, who has become an old hand in the Europa League.

Over seven years from 2014 to 2021, the Spanish manager made it to five finals, winning four of them.

Here, Flashscore's Francois Miguel Boudet charted his success in Europe.

19:50 CET - With just over an hour before kick-off, team news is officially in for the 2025/26 Europa League final!

Unsurprisingly, Unai Emery has selected the same lineup that blew Nottingham Forest away in the semi-final second leg, which means Victor Lindelof gets another start in Aston Villa's midfield alongside Youri Tielemans.

As for Freiburg, Julian Schuster has also named an unchanged side from the team that thrashed Braga in their semi-final second leg.

Young forward Igor Matanovic leads the line for Freiburg and should be full of confidence after a goal and an assist in their final match of the season in the Bundesliga last weekend.

Matanovic's 15 goals in all competitions vs Ollie Watkins' 19 goals for Villa is arguably the top storyline heading into the final. That is because whichever team creates the best chances for their forward tonight might well be the side that comes out on top.

In terms of who might create those chances tonight, well, exciting 20-year-old attacking midfielder Johan Manzambi is undoubtedly Freiburg's most creative spark after his six assists in all competitions this season.

However, Morgan Rogers for Aston Villa is a cut above any Freiburg attacker in terms of numbers and his all-around game.

The England international is the star in this Villa side, and his 23 goal contributions this campaign showcase how important he is to Emery.

19:00 CET - Good evening and welcome to the Europa League final from Istanbul! This is a mammoth night for both Freiburg and Aston Villa. Freiburg have never won a major trophy, and this is quite simply the biggest night in the club's history. As for Aston Villa, they have waited 30 years to win a major trophy, and their last European glory came in 1982.

So the wait has been long for both fanbases, and with Champions League football also on the line for Freiburg (Aston Villa have already qualified), there is so much at stake. Unai Emery's incredible record in this competition, which has seen him win four out of five Europa League finals, makes his Villa side even bigger favourites than they already were.

Whereas Villa are all but guaranteed to finish fourth in the most competitive league in the world, Freiburg finished just seventh in the Bundesliga.

However, whilst all of that is true and Villa are favourites for a reason, head coach Julian Schuster has done a brilliant job on his managerial European debut campaign.

Freiburg have lost just twice en route to the final, qualified seventh in the league phase and have scored an impressive 15 goals in six knockout games to book their ticket for this showpiece event.

A richly deserved achievement.
