Everton youngster Demi Akarakiri is closing in on a move to Serie A side Cagliari.

A post from the midfielder’s Instagram account appeared to confirm his departure from the Blues as he said “thank you” to them.

At the same time that Everton announced they were continuing to liaise with Idrissa Gueye over his future on June 10, they revealed that Akarakiri had been offered a new contract, along with Melvin Matos and Rocco Lambert, while fellow Under-18s players Goodness Gospel-Eze, Louis Poland, Charlie Stewart and Kean Wren would all leave the club upon the expiry of their deals at the end of June.

However, Londoner Akarakiri, who joined Everton in 2024 after spending a decade in Arsenal’s academy, is now searching a quicker pathway to first-team football with the Sardinian outfit who finished 14th in the Italian top flight last season under Fabio Pisacane.

An article in Sport Witness on Friday cited a report from Corriere dello Sport that claims the player underwent a medical in Rome on Thursday and is expected to sign a five-year deal today.

The piece states that the signing of Akarakiri, 18, “is seen as a significant coup by new sporting director Pietro Accardi,” and “Cagliari are now aiming to sign players cheaply and sell for a higher fee.”

Meanwhile, Cagliari president Tommaso Giulini has openly hinted at the signing by stating that a teenager coming from the Premier League isn’t moving to Italy just to play youth football with the club pitching an immediate spot in their senior matchday setups.
